Back in late October, we published a blog post about our approach to safety online. In it, we made a few promises:
- Expanding our policies to newly acquired entities;
- Building large language models for moderation to help our partners tackle GenAI-induced challenges; and
- Building our Trust and Safety team and inviting our community to report partnerships or affiliations they believe violate our standards directly to us at OpenWeb.
Today, we’re happy to announce that we’ve achieved all of these goals. You can view our revised Community Policy here, and read below for updates on each of the above items.
- Expanding our policies to newly acquired entities;
Since OpenWeb’s original policy was written, the company has evolved — a lot. We acquired three businesses, each with different considerations, needs, and types of customers. It was clear that we needed to revise our policies to reflect an updated standard.
In our new policy, we provide guidelines for community content that ensure a high level of safety and suitability. We also are excited to continue our partnerships with WFA/GARM and EDAA to ensure that we are in line with industry standards regarding published content.
- Building large language models for moderation to help our partners tackle GenAI-induced challenges;
OpenWeb has launched Aida (Artificial Intelligence moDeration Agents), our custom LLM for community moderation, to all OpenWeb partners utilizing our community products. While we consider this product in “open beta” it is widely and freely available in every OpenWeb partners’ admin panel. We will release more information about this innovation as we prepare for a full launch within the calendar year.
- Building our Trust and Safety team and inviting our community to report partnerships or affiliations they believe violate our standards directly to us at OpenWeb.
As outlined in our revised Community Policy, anyone on the web can reach out to OpenWeb’s Trust & Safety team to flag perceived violations. We will consider these and take private action as determined necessary internally and/or by our industry partners.
OpenWeb is committed to building a healthier web that’s profitable for publishers, safe for users, and fair for advertisers. We believe these revised policies bring us closer to making that vision a reality.
We’ll see you out on the web.
